Its no longer just about the climate emergency, its about recognising just how important water is - whether its a strategic resource, a critical part of our infrastructure or a key part of how we understand all the major changes that are happening to our coastal cities, our food systems, global governance and our technology.

As the organisers see it, the goal is to create a bit of a global laboratory where people can get together to talk about how to make our cities more resilient, how to sort out environmental governance, climate diplomacy, the European Blue Deal and all the new policies that cities are going to need in order to deal with the climate crisis. And what better place to do that than Venice - a city that's seen it all, with a thousand years of history and a delicate balance between land and sea.

The whole thing was born of the brain of journalist Riccardo Luna and entrepreneur Sara Roversi who are taking the reins for the 2026 event. They're already well underway with plans for an event that's going to be way bigger and better than the inaugural event in 2025.

So - the official dates for Venice Climate Week 2026 are June 3-8 2026 and they're going to be under the banner of "Planet Aqua, Planet Peace". In June 2026 the Global Summit of Mayors of Water Cities will be taking place too, on June 7-8, and this will bring together the leaders of coastal, delta and lagoon cities, with a programme that will be shaped by the summit directors.
